Equipment Needed
- Sheet Pan: a small sheet pan or cookie sheet, I use a quarter sheet size
- Bowl & Spatula: you don’t need a mixer for this recipe, just a bowl and a spatula to mix the ingredients together
- Scale: the most accurate way to measure ingredients
Key Ingredients
- Brown Sugar & White Sugar: the mix of two kinds of sugar gives the quintessential chocolate chip cookie flavor
- Egg Yolk: We’ll use just the yolk
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips: Use the classic Nestle chocolate chips or experiment with dark chocolate chips for a different flavor
How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie for One
- This is an easy one bowl recipe, you can stir it up with a spoon or a spatula.
- Start with the room temperature, softened butter, this is important since we’re mixing it by hand, if your butter is too cold it won’t mix well with the sugar.
- Add the brown sugar and white sugar and mix into the butter until it a uniform texture.
- Add the egg yolk, mix until smooth.
- Add flour, baking soda and salt, stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, make sure you scrape the bottom of the bowl to incorporate all the pockets of flour.
- Add chocolate chips, mix in just until they’re evenly distributed
- Form dough into a ball and place on center of baking sheet
- Bake at 350°F for 13 mins
- Optional for an extra boost of chocolate – add an extra handful of chocolate chips to the top of the cookie and stick back into the oven for 1 more minute. This melts chocolate right on top of the cookie for an extra chocolatey bite. But the cookie tastes great without this too
- Let cool 5 mins on the baking sheet before enjoying warm!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make more than one cookie with this recipe?
Yes you could split the dough into two smaller cookies, but since they are smaller you will have to watch the baking time to ensure they don’t burn. I have not tried it so you’ll need to check at the 6 min mark and again at 10mins.
